Civil Engineering

About

After Military engineering, Civil engineering is considered as one of the oldest branches of engineering. Over the number of years, the department has produced young bright civil engineers of our country.

Our faculty members and students are involved in various research activities in all areas of civil engineering. The department is also very active in conducting various conferences, workshops, short term seminars etc.

Civil engineering is a broad field of engineering that deals with the planning, construction, and maintenance of fixed structures, or public works, as they are related to earth, water, or civilization and their processes. Most civil engineering today deals with power plants, bridges, roads, railways, structures, water supply, irrigation, the natural environment, sewer, flood control, transportation and traffic. In essence, civil engineering may be regarded as the profession that makes the world a more agreeable place in which to live.

Vision

The department of civil engineering aims to bring out civil engineers with high technical competencies coupled with interpersonal skills and management capability to meet the current and future challenges in civil engineering.

Mission

  • To impart quality education to the students in order to serve society and the nation by providing solutions to the challenges in the field of civil engineering.
  • To inculcate moral and ethical values among students.
  • To develop leadership qualities in the students.
  • Ability to relate engineering issues to broader social issues and human context.
  • One Day Seminar On “ADVANCED TRANSPORT ENGINEERING” Guest: by Prof. AMARNATH REDDY

    Program Educational Objectives

The program educational objectives are broad statements that describe the career and professional accomplishments that the program is preparing the graduates to achieve. The PEOs prepare students to:

    • Function effectively as civil engineering professionals in industry, government or other organizations, designing, improving, leading and implementing efficient civil engineering practices.
    • Provide solutions to engineering problems that account for economical, environmental, ethical, and societal considerations as well as professional standards, by applying acquired engineering knowledge.
    • Apply their broad civil engineering education to effectively communicate civil engineering concepts orally and in written forms.
    • Utilize formal and informal learning opportunities to maintain and enhance technical, personal and professional growth.

    Program Outcomes

    • An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
    • An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
    • An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic Constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safely Manufacturability and sustainability.
    • An ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams
    • An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
    • An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
    • An ability to communicate effectively
    • The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental and societal context
    • A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
    • A knowledge of contemporary issues
    • An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
    • An ability to recognize and adapt to emerging trends in Embedded Systems and its applications.

    Civil Engineering

    Programmes

B.Tech in civil engineering with an intake of 60

    Laboratories

    Concrete lab

In the concrete technology lab, the properties of cement and concrete are determined. The strength of different grades of concrete are determined based on which structural designs can be made.

    Hydraulics lab

This course is designed to explain basic concepts of fluid flow through various flow measuring devices, pipe bend, jets and propeller etc. It is expected to understand the basic concepts of flow in open channel, working principle of different types of turbines and pumps and similarity of model and prototype and to create in students awareness about the factors related to determination of efficiencies of hydraulic pumps and turbines

    Engineering Geology lab

Engineering Geology helps to understand engineering implications of certain geological conditions related to the location of construction. It enables the civil engineer to understand the nature of geological information which is absolutely essential for a safe design & construction of a civil engineering projects.

    Geotechnical laboratory

In the geotechnical laboratory, the important engineering and fundamental soil properties of soil are determined. These properties will help the civil engineer to determine the nature of soil and its strength for designing and construction of structures.

    Surveying lab

Surveying is the skill of determining the relative position of points, either horizontal or vertical, or objects by measurement of angles or distances. It forms a primary requirement of a civil engineer to survey a given area to understand its topography for constructional purposes. The major experiments that are conducted in the course include – Experiments on chain surveying, compass surveying, Plane table surveying, Theodolite, Determination of relative elevations of points using Dumpy levels and their plotting as contours.

    Environmental lab

Identification of source, estimation of quantity required, treatment of water to the desired degree and conveyance of water to the community are the essential features of water supply. Students are expected to determine water quality, properties of wastewater and its analysis.

The college offers many opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities. Student organizations are a very important part of the college experience. They encourage teamwork, leadership, improved organizational skills and creativity, while cultivating professional interests.

The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE):

The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) is a national, non-profit making professional body, registered under the society's registration Act of 1860. Started in 1941 as the Association of Principals of Technical Institutions (APII), later it was converted into "Indian Society for Technical Education", New Delhi in 1986 with a view to enlarge its activities to advance the cause of technical education in the country. It is the only national organization of educators in the field of engineering and technology

INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT(ISRD):

Journals are independent peer-reviewed, scholarly open access online international journal. Open access publications are freely available online to anyone, which maximizes the visibility, and thus the uptake and use of the work published.

    Civil Engineering

    Department Library

The department of civil engineering has department library for the reference purpose of students and staff. As per University syllabus prescribed and reference textbooks are available in the department library. In addition to the course books general books for personality development, general knowledge, handbooks, yearbooks, are also added to the collections. The department library also archives the final year project reports submitted by the students.
